I operate out of the southwest region of the state in Erie, Pennsylvania. Myself, my other Captains, and First Mates have all been fishing Lake Erie most of their lives.
My Lake Erie charter service operates full time from late April until the end of October.
We know where, when, and how to catch fish, drawing from many years of Lake Erie fishing knowledge and experience, using old and the newest of tactics. Over the years, month after month, trip after trip, we have proven our abilities to find and catch fish.
There are no hidden costs. We provide all fishing tackle and bait, including ice for any fish on board. Your catch will also be cleaned, filleted or left whole, at your choice, for no additional cost to you.

Captain Dan started fishing in Pennsylvania with his Uncle Vic when he was old enough to hold a fishing rod. He fished various Pennsylvania hotspots like the 3 Rivers and other local lakes and streams throughout the state. Captain Dan started fishing Lake Erie in 1988 and eventually opened Buckets Charter business in 1997. Captain Dan, a mechanic by trade is now a home inspector when he is not at the helm of his charter boats.
Captain Dan also has some impressive fishing accomplishments and tournament wins.
- He won the 1st place in the Steelhead Loc Derby in 2002.
- Had a 4th place finish in 2006 in the EPSFA Walleye Pro-Am.
- And finished 13th in the 2007 Pro-Am.
- Captain Dan is also President of the Port Erie Captains Association and Vice President of the Pittsburgh Downriggers.

Hello, I am Captain Mike of Buckets Charters, I have fished Lake Erie throughout my life with my father who was also a Lake Erie Charter Fishing Captain. I have fished all area's of the lake and found the water's off Erie Pennsylvania to be some of the most productive with easy access to shallow and deep water along with easy access to various bottom's including sand, rock, etc...
This leed's to a broad spectrum of fishing option's throughout the fishing season. I am a US Coast Guard Licensed Master and have been taking satisfied Client's on Lake Erie Charter's for more than 10 year's. I began running Charter's with my father out of Northeast Marina (approx. 16 miles east of Erie PA) as Hazy Days Charters, then moved to Erie PA and began running Charter's for Buckets. My father having fished Erie since the days of the Blue Pike, passed on a vast knowledge of Lake Erie fishing to me.
While running charters out of Erie and knowing Captain Dan of Buckets, he gave me the opportunity to run a boat for him. Captain Dan runs a first class operation with only the best equipment and I jumped at the chance to run for him and bring my clientele with me. Going out on a charter is all about having a relaxing and fun time and I will do my best to see that happen for all. In my years of running charters I have heard the horror stories from clients who have gone with other Charters, being treated badly, yelled at, beat up in rough water without options to not go, etc... etc... I assure you this will not happen with me and hope if it happened to any of you before with other Charters to go ahead and give Bucket's a try because you will not be disappointed.

My name is Captain Josh Jekielek and as Captain of one of Dan's Lake Erie fishing boats it is my job to provide you with a safe, fun and productive day of Lake Erie fishing. I have been fishing Lake Erie since the eighties with my dad out of Dunkirk. I cut my teeth on the Erie, PA charter scene as a mate for six years with one of the most knowledgeable fishermen on the lake, and I am starting my second season with Dan as a Captain.
I have worked the commercial and sport fishing industry in Alaska, have extensive saltwater experience in South Florida, am a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve in Buffalo, NY and own my own river guide business in Warren, PA. I take my fishing seriously and I take your safety seriously while you are with us, as well as your need to have a great day out on the water.
Dan runs a really professional Lake Erie charter fishing operation and there are plenty of fish in the lake, so I sincerely hope to see you this summer out on the water. I will be running trips for Dan during the week from the end of June to the end of August.

Buckets Charters Mate
I've been fishing on Lake Erie for over 15 years and 10 of those years as Captain Dan Kelly's first mate. I am also the man that keeps the fleet running smoothly as I am in charge of the maintenance of all the Buckets charter boats.
So therefore I've experienced many different situations on the lake...so i will try with the best of knowledge and ability to do everything I can to make your day enjoyable and one to remember...

First mate Doug Straub is a resident of the Erie area and is currently an undergaduate student at Penn State University, majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Science.
Growing up just a few minutes from Lake Erie, Doug has become accustom to this great fishery that we have. His passion for fishing and providing you the customer with a memorable trip is one of a kind. |
