Lake Erie Fishing Report - Buckets Charters

Lake Ontario Kings 4/28/12

Capt. Dan, Capt. Ken and Doug joined Capt. Charlie aboard his “Good Time Charlie” vessel on Lake Ontario out of Olcott, NY on Saturday.

They only had to make a very short run to the fish, 90′-120′FOW, and they were immediately into the kings…with a few coho and lake trout mixed in.

4.5 hours yielded a “conservative” 25 kings to the boat…skippers to 23 pounds!  Well over 30 bites for the day!

The program consisted of all spoons fished very DEEP!  Hot colors were Later Gator, Gator Glow, Nuke Pink/Purple, VQ Green Alewife.

Divers on a #1.5 setting, 200′ back and a #2 setting, 230′ back were steady as well as 300′ and 400′ coppers.  Riggers parked anywhere 90′ to as deep as 154′ took plenty of bites.  A 110′ rigger helped stick the biggest of the day at 23lbs.

Waves started out as choppy 2′ers but laid down to lazy 1′ers.  SW-NE troll fished best in the green water.

Killing speed at the ball was 2.2 with a fairly consistent temp of 46.5 degrees.

Lake Ontario 4-22-12

Capt. Dan, Kurt and Chris joined Capt. Charlie, aboard Good Time Charlie, out of Olcott, NY today.

Big NE winds made fishing tough but it didn’t seem to slow the bite down. Divers and ‘riggers performed the best.

6 kings boated along with 3 lakers and a steelhead.  7 bites/drive-bys got away.

Hot spoons: Michigan Stingers in Green Glow Alewive, Sea Sick Waddler and Later Gator.  Custom Pirate 55′s also got a couple of bites.

Capt. Ken had to cancel both of this past weekend’s Lake Erie lake trout trips due to ripping NE winds.

Saturday, April 14, 2012 Lake Trout Report

Capt. Dan and Kurt, on the “B5″, made the run east and quickly boxed out with 10 Lakers. Divers and riggers fished in the bottom 15′ all fired consistently.

Stinger, NK28 and custom Joe’s Pirate spoons did the killing.  Largest fish weighed aprox. 16lbs.  2.4mph was the speed.

Capt. Ken and Doug, on the “B3″ ran a little further east with Author Robert Clark, Peter, John and Mike.  They ended up boating 16 lakers out of 31 bites/drive-bys.  Largest 16.5lbs.  Mike had the pleasure of reeling in the first walleye of the 2012 season(via 5-color LC)…a healthy 6lb. fish that was immediately released.

Similar program as described above with all custom Joe’s Pirate 55 spoons getting the job done.

Both the “B5″ and the “B3″ particpated in the Erie, PA Sport Fish Association’s(EPSFA) Spring Trout Challenge today(Sunday, April 15, 2012).

Neither boat landed a steelhead, brown trout or a salmon to weigh in.  A little ice for the chin was needed today.  Only 6 fish were weighed in out of a 10-team field…4 brown trout and 2 steelhead!

If you are interested in participating in any of the EPSFA’s 4 annual team-style tournaments, visit:  http://www.epsfa.com/  and click on the Tournaments link on the left hand side of the page for more info including rules.
